Phyllis Chapell performs a unique mix of originals, folk, jazz and international music, including songs in up to 12 languages from the U.S., Brazil, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. She has a specialized Jewish program (which includes songs in Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian and Ladino). Her American repertoire covers a wide range of music from show tunes to jazz, folk, and pop standards, as well as originals.

Phyllis Chapell has performed in concert throughout the U.S., in Brazil, Latin America, and Europe.

She has released 2 solo CDs, “World Songs” and “Voice in Flight” and she has released several CDs with her internationally known world jazz ensemble SIORA. Her 2004 CD with SIORA, “Vis-a-Vis,” garnered a 4-star rating by AllMusicGuide.com and has been played on national jazz radio throughout the U.S. and in Europe as well. SIORA's newest project is an international journey through the Jewish repertoire called “Vision of the Dry Bones.”

She won 2nd place in the Just Plaln Folks Competition 2001 for her song “Soul in Flight” (Best Torch/Cabaret Song) from her “World Songs” CD.

Phyllis Chapell has been named as one of the top 500 jazz vocalists of all time in a new book The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide (published by Hal Leonard) written by Scott Yanow (writer for Down Beat, Jazz Times and AllMusicGuide).
