Dave Puls has been the Creative Director at Animatus Studio since 1992. He is also a songwriter, musician and mixed media collagist. He has collaborated with Bob Barancik and many associates of CreativeLedge on multiple award-winning video productions. Over the years he has been combining animation, photomontage, special effects and video to express some of his deepest concerns. He has written, directed and animated 15 independent films, called Fresh Toones. They have been screened at festivals around the world and six of these animated shorts have been award winners at various film festivals. His animated short called “When Georgie Goes Marchin’ Home” is a Bronze Telly Award winner.
Dave holds a B.F.A. in oil painting (Old Masters techniques) and had a 13-year career as a rehab counselor for the NYS Mental Health Department before returning to the arts.
He has been inspiring students of all ages for many years at The Animation Workshop and as a teaching artist for the Aesthetic Education Institute and Young Audiences of Rochester.
Dave also has been writing songs since 1970, which are used as the themes for most of his animated shorts. He has independently produced eleven CDs of his original music. He has performed for many years in a variety of bands, as well as a solo artist.
The world of animation has allowed him to speak with a multitude of voices, using his songs, music and graphic imagery.
