Amber Aguirre is a ceramic sculptor living and working on the Big Island of Hawaii. She received her BFA at the University of Southern California, where she studied under Susan Peterson. She then continued her education with a Masters Degree in Art Education and teaching credential at San Francisco State University, after which she went on to teach ceramics in the public school system.
For the last 10 years, Amber has moved away from teaching in order to focus on her own work, as she felt her calling in art was as a social commentator. Throughout her life, Amber has had an overwhelming awareness of victimization in our culture. This in part is due to her mother being a Holocaust survivor of Auschwitz and the Death March, as well as her own experiences of anti-Semitism. Her work explores these strong emotions by blending humor, sarcasm, and pain in an edgy and confrontational way.
